Legacy’s League of Legends squad has qualified for the OPL finals after one of the most scintillating series of the season against Mammoth Esports.
Due to the OPL’s points system, Legacy had to win 2-0 over Mammoth to qualify for the finals.
Dropping a single game would have resulted in the team missing finals for the first time in OPL history.
Game one was a brutal 59-minute slugfest, unlike anything the OPL has seen this season.
The teams traded blows and objectives throughout the early game, but Mammoth had a clear advantage when they secured baron after a team fight gone wrong at the 29-minute mark.
However, Legacy seized back the advantage at 40-minutes on the back of two beautiful plays from Claire.
Despite having a clear lead, the game hung on a knife edge, with a single mistake capable of throwing the game back into Mammoths favour.
Finally, at 59-minutes, Decoy found his opening and pulled off a great Rakan engage to enable his partner in crime Raid to clean up the game.
If game one was close, then game two was a heart-stopping rollercoaster, with Mammoth taking a serious early advantage, up eight kills to nil in the early game.
A daring baron call at 23 minutes secured three buffs and an advantage for Legacy, but Mammoth snuck a baron of their own at 30 minutes and took back the initiative.
An excellent team fight at 36 minutes let Legacy secure Baron, Elder dragon, three inhibitors and nearly the game, but Mammoth turned the fight around and aced Legacy to keep themselves in it.
In the end, it was a crucial rotation by Legacy that caught out Remind and secured the win, taking game two at 47 minutes.
With a place in the gauntlet now secured, Legacy have to start their finals climb from the very bottom, beginning with the AFL clash against the Bombers.
Tune in from 5pm AEST on Friday afternoon as we try to keep our hopes of playing in the live finals at the Melbourne Esports Open alive!
